Volunteer in Uganda
Uganda, one of the poorest countries in Africa, but also one of the most beautiful, is always in need of Volunteers to help with education, health, hygiene, and especially children’s programs in Africa. In Africa programs can be a bit scary at best, and downright dishonest at worst. So we asked Carmen, our resident expert on volunteering in Africa for her recommendations. Below are places she has been to and recommends.
In Kampala Uganda: Return Uganda Orphanage and Ministries (http://www.returnministriesuganda.org) is where Carmen volunteered and is a Christian ministry run by pastor Samuel Bubonero, a Ugandan native. When he first started it, he was funding it with his own money from his IT job and now there are supporters, so, it lessens his burden. There is a huge need for help with teaching, education, and nutrition.
In Jinja, Uganda: Canaan’s Children’s Home (http://www.canaanchildrenshome.org/). To learn more about this amazing ministry you can read a blog from Katie Davis (www.kissesfromkatie.blogspot.com ), a volunteer who has worked a lot with Canaan’s Children’s Home.
